I always thought studying in Australia is expensive. Is this true?

No – in fact, if you are an out-of-state student, it can be cheaper for you to spend the semester in Australia, studying on our Maryland-in-Australia program, rather than at Maryland! Tuition, room, board, books, airfare, and an Australian Visa for the Maryland-in-Australia program is roughly $11,720. In comparison, out-of-state tuition is roughly $16,042, and in-state tuition is roughly $8,923. So, it is extremely comparable.

Also, if you receive financial aid, you will receive all of your aid towards this Maryland-in-Australia program. This money will be disbursed to your student account for you to use how you wish. Finally, there are a number of scholarships available through our office for students studying on UM semester programs, which students can apply for to alleviate some of the costs (not to mention national scholarships too!). So, if you plan ahead in terms of finances, Australia is definitely a cost-effective option.
